On 4th Dec 2025, the LISS DTP Team hosted our Winter Gathering for the first time ever at Imperial College London.

Our LISS DTP Students, Postdoctoral Fellows, Partners and Staff came along to celebrate the year-end. It was wonderful seeing the LISS DTP community come together in support of our annual 2nd Year Poster Competition. You can view our 2nd Year Posters and Prize Winners below, which is an excellent showcase of our interdisciplinary research.

We give thanks and appreciation to all our 2nd Year Students for all their hard work in presenting a poster. Congratulations to our Prize Winners and a special thanks also goes to our judging team and our external partners that participated in our Placement Panel.

The Placement Panel

Our Winter Gathering featured a fascinating Placement Panel with Claudia Jaksch from Policy Connect, Heather Rolfe from British Future, and Kate Kipling from the Environment Agency. The conversation explored how placements offer real value for both students and organisations. It provided an opportunity to see how research can be applied in non-academic settings and help students gain experience that is highly relevant for future careers. Organisations also benefit greatly from the fresh perspectives and skills that students bring, which makes placements a two-way exchange.

The panel encouraged LISS Students to research and make contact with organisations, stressing that students should not assume organisations will lack interest or that they have nothing to offer. Many organisations actively welcome placements, and opportunities are available on our website, including roles at British Future and Policy Connect.
