Thesis Title: Digital Surveillance, Bureaucratic Work Behavior, and Citizen’s Acceptance

Abstract: Digital surveillance is widely used worldwide, especially in the past few decades. In the 1950s, Germany began using cameras for traffic control and monitoring rallies. In the 1960s, the UK implemented street cameras in central London to observe political demonstrations. Post-9/11, many Western countries have pursued new digital surveillance policies due to security concerns. By 2018, around 30 countries were using digital surveillance to monitor and track citizens, with half being democratic and half authoritarian. Most existing research on digital surveillance focuses on its effects on the public. To contribute further to this line of research, I propose to study how digital surveillance influences bureaucratic work behaviour.
