Thesis Title:
Essays in Environmental Economics and Finance
Thesis Abstract:
I study the interactions between financial markets and climate adaptation investments in developing countries, focusing on how these investments influence economic outcomes. Specifically, my research examines the impact of climate adaptation investments on climate risk mitigation, economic productivity, and insurance markets.
I study how insurance markets can leverage mitigation of climate risks due to these investments and how market competition affects insurers’ decision to invest in public adaptation infrastructure. I also study the effect of adaptation infrastructure on economic productivity and resilience in developing countries, and how this interacts with the local insurance markets. Overall, my research aims to align private sector incentives with public welfare, by offering a novel framework to mitigate the economic impacts of climate change.
