The Institute for Children’s Futures (ICF) at Manchester Metropolitan (Manchester Met) is a leading interdisciplinary institute committed to improving children’s lives through research, policy, and practice. We place children’s voices at the heart of everything we do — not just hearing them, but actively involving them in shaping the solutions to the challenges they face. By working across sectors and alongside children, we co-create evidence-informed, rights-based approaches that deliver real-world impact, both in the UK and globally, to improve outcomes and secure better futures for all children.
Launched in November 2024, the ICF emerged from Manchester Met’s commitment to tackling inequalities and enhancing the health and wellbeing of children and young people. The institute brings together over 180 researchers from multiple disciplines, creating a critical mass of expertise dedicated to children’s issues, participation and rights. This collaborative approach ensures that research is comprehensive and impactful, addressing the diverse aspects of children’s lives, experiences and futures.
