Cross-institutional collaboration
The London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (LISS DTP) enables social science research students to join and develop a research community that springs from the interface between the social science disciplines with health and medicine, the natural and physical sciences, engineering, and the arts and humanities. The LISS DTP is funded by the Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) and led by King’s College London, in partnership with Imperial College London and Queen Mary University of London.
Students joining the LISS DTP are registered at either King’s, Queen Mary or Imperial, and all students will have access to LISS DTP Training Programme and Events.
The LISS DTP 2025 Open Competition is now Open.

About us
Our research
LISS DTP funded studentships see students working with some of the world’s leading experts, and building communities of students, academic leads to network in similar disciplinary areas covering six research areas:
- Global Health Innovation
- Business Analytics, Management, and Applied Economics
- Language, Culture, and Education
- Environment and Sustainability
- Global Order and Security
- Public Policy and Governance
Our training programme
The LISS DTP delivers a rich and varied training programme for social science students across our partner institutions. We offer Core and Advanced Social Methods Training as well as short courses led by our students, academics, and partners. The LISS DTP Training programme is available to ALL social science students at King’s, Queen Mary and Imperial, bringing together a diverse cohort of students and creating a researcher training community.
Our impact
The LISS DTP encourages engagement with a broad range of non-academic partners, whether government, non-governmental or industry. Such engagement enables the LISS DTP to develop research in a collaborative manner that best reflects society’s needs. Furthermore, it ensures that the skills our students develop through their training programmes at LISS are enhanced and complemented by engagement and practice with the broader non-academic world. This should help to prepare them for successful careers in the future and contribute to societal impact. Given the wide diversity of research covered by the LISS DTP, there is no unique model for engagement with the LISS DTP. We encourage interested parties to contact us in order to develop an engagement which suits their needs.
