Project title: Refugee Aid 3.0: Seeking Infrastructure Justice

Dr Margie Cheesman is a digital anthropologist. She works with users and makers of digitalisation projects to study global migration governance and inequality. Margie’s doctoral thesis was the first ethnography of blockchain technology in the humanitarian aid sector, based on research with refugees and United Nations agencies in Jordan. With particular interest in Web3 innovations (blockchains, cryptocurrencies, and decentralised IDs), Margie will use the ESRC LISS Fellowship to extend her research on the socio-economic justice issues surrounding contemporary and experimental infrastructures of money and identity.
