Thesis title:

Communication, Embodiment, and Learning in Voluntary Communities of Practice

Abstract:

This project will examine, through ethnographic observation, how individuals become ‘legitimate’ members of voluntary Communities of Practice. Taking as its focus arts based groups, this research will centre on the learning of physical, performance based crafts in this voluntary, part-time capacity, as well as the significance of membership within these for its members. A second strand of this project will focus on embodied learning in such spaces, observing and examining the ways in which individuals are educated, learn, and provided with feedback in these physical spaces.
