Project title: Freebirthing in the UK: The Good Mother Concept and the presentation of results via narrative and arts-based research

Gemma’s fellowship develops her doctoral work on freebirth. She is specifically exploring the social concept of the ‘Good Mother’ and how it impacts women’s birth decisions. In addition, Gemma is working on innovative creative methodological approaches to qualitative data that focus on myth, fairy tales and storytelling. With support from charities, galleries, service users, artists and members of the public, Gemma is also creating a public engagement crochet exhibition on human rights in childbirth.
