Dr Alistair Sheldrick

School of Geography, Queen Mary University London

Mentor: Prof Jon May

Project title: Geographies of asylum, welfare, and the state

This postdoctoral fellowship builds on Alistair’s PhD research – Geographies of asylum, welfare, and the state at the margins – which focuses on the political and geographical intersections between asylum and welfare governance in the UK.

He is especially interested in how the governmental logics, technologies, and geographical dimensions of asylum governance and austerity are produced and negotiated at the local and everyday level.

The central focus of the fellowship will be on adapting the doctoral research for publication as a monograph, along with academic journal papers. He will also be developing a proposal for further research and contributing to charity-sector partners and campaigns.
