Recent reviews have attempted to understand how military families are defined in research and policy, but these have been limited to the so-called Five Eyes nations of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. While this is due to similarities in culture, society, and militaries, there is a wealth of research exploring the experiences of military families in other contexts such as Iran, Nigeria, India, Pakistan, and Brazil. Such research tends to be excluded from reviews which limits our understanding of military family health and wellbeing to Westernised contexts and dismisses the work of non-Five Eyes researchers.

This project would seek to understand the scope of research on military families conducted outside Five Eyes nations. This may take the form of a scoping review to outline the nature of military families research outside the Five Eyes nations or a narrative or systematic review of the findings of this body of work. 

Internship Details

Anticipated Benefits for the Student

The student will gain experience in literature searching and reviewing, synthesising and critiquing research, and writing up for academic publication as well as experience working in academia more generally.

The student will have the opportunity to present findings to the department, building presentation skills. It is hoped that the student will take the lead, with support, on submitting the paper to an academic journal, supporting career progression and CV development.
